They enjoy fruit and vegetable scraps, oranges being a favorite that is also good for them. Ground up egg shells can provide are source of protein.
Roaches mature in 3-6 months and can live up to 5 years in captivity. Ideal breeding grounds are dark, moist substrates with an average temperature of 80-90 degrees.
One of the few wingless roaches makes a hissing sound by extruding air out of tiny holes in their abdomen called spiracles. It is a way of warding off predators and communicating with other cockroaches in its species.
