Brazilian Rainbow Boa - Amazon Rain Forest, South America
Epicrates cenchria maurus
RECOMMENDED FOR AUDIENCES:
4 - 100 YEARS OLD
In the wild, they will feed on birds, lizards, and small mammals. In captivity they feed entirely on mice and rats and can still be healthy.
Females give live birth in litters of 2 to 35. A typical litter contains 12 to 25 babies. The babies are usually 15 to 20 inches long. Rainbow Boas can live an average of 20 years in captivity.
Rainbow boas have an iridescent sheen imparted by microscopic ridges on their scales, which act like prisms to refract light into rainbows.
