DIET

Most species are diurnal ground-foraging omnivores, feeding on a wide variety of insects, gastropods, flowers, fruits and berries.

LIFECYCLE

Blue tongue skinks are born alive, about three to five months after mating. In captivity they can live for 20 years, and some in the wild may live for up to 30 years.

INTERESTING FACTS

Blue-tongued lizards can drop their tails to escape a predator. A new tail may regenerate or stump over depending upon age and available nutrients.  The tail is where food and water reserves are stored.
